There are reports that Lionel Messi
might have broken down in tears, after the Super Eagles of Nigeria on
Tuesday, defeated Argentina 4-2, in a friendly match played in
Krasnodar, Russia.
Arsenal forward, Alex Iwobi, scored
twice, while Leicester City striker, Kelechi Iheanacho, also put his
name on the score sheet.
Argentina was the better side in the
first half, running riots over the Super Eagles, and their efforts paid
off on the 28th minute when Ever Banega fired home from a free kick
outside the Eagles’ box.
Eighth minutes later, Sergio Aguero connected with Cristian Pavon’s cross to slot home the second for the South Americans.
However, the Nigerian team was able to
reduce the tally in the 45th minutes, when Iwobi was brought down at the
opposition area. Iheanacho stepped up to place the ball beyond the
goalkeeper.
The Nigerian bench tweaked the team at
the break, bringing in Francis Uzoho, Brian Idowu, and Tyronne Ebuehi,
for Daniel Akpeyi, Ola Aina, and Shehu Abdullahi, respectively.
The change in formation turned the game
around within 20 minutes, and the Super Eagles hit two goals within
three minutes to take the game beyond Argentina.
Iwobi fired home the fourth goal in the 73rd minute, after collecting a pass from substitute, Ahmed Musa.
The South Americans made efforts to
reduce the tally later in the game, but the Eagles stood their ground to
ensure it ended at 4-2.
