Emerging report indicates that the
Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, has appointed Dr Ibe Kachikwu, as the
substantive Minister of Petroleum.
The appointment was based on President
Muhammadu Buhari’s instruction, before jetting out of the country, on an
indefinite medical follow-up in the United Kingdom, UK.
Post-Nigeria, learnt that the critical
decision that was reached to fully handover the Petroleum sector into
the hands of Kackikwu, is currently unsettling some Northern cabals, who
are known as the “President’s Men.”
Recall, that Buhari had through a letter
to the National Assembly, in 2015, declared himself as the substantive
Minister of Petroleum.
Meanwhile, before his latest trip to the
United Kingdom for a medical follow-up, he asked the Minister of State
for Petroleum Resources, to “go ahead with some critical decisions, and
be fully in charge of the Ministry.
A source at the Presidency, disclosed that the announcement of Kachikwu as Petroleum Minister, was based on his competence.
A cabal in the Presidency, members of
whom are majorly of Northern extraction, he stated, is strongly opposed
to this development.
“They murmured when the President
allowed Kachikwu to take over as the substantive Chairman of the Board
of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, because the post
is for a substantive Minister.
“Now, they are greatly unsettled that
the status of a full Minister has fallen on his laps, particularly due
to the ill-health of the President, who is abroad on an indefinite
medical trip”, the source revealed.
