A cross section of Nigerians, were disappointed on Friday, December 23, as former President, Goodluck Jonathan, in a strongly worded statement, put up a disclaimer of his purported secret plan to run for Presidency, in 2019.
Before now, there has been a clarion call for Jonathan to re-contest in 2019, as a panacea to end the biting economic recession.
Jonathan in a statement, issued by his Media Aide, Ikechukwu Eze, described online reports that he held a meeting with his kinsmen in his hometown, Otuoke, where he said he was under pressure to contest in 2019, as mere “fabrication”.

Although, Jonathan’s statement has shocked President Muhammadu Buhari, who was alleged to have expressed fears of Jonathan’s possible return; the former President, maintained that his plan for 2019, is not to run for Presidency.

Recall, that Jonathan had in 2015, lost the Presidential election to President Muhammadu Buhari, of the All Progressives Congress, APC, thereby ending the 16-year rule of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The statement read, “Our attention has just been drawn to a fabricated online publication, alleging that the former President, Goodluck Jonathan, made comments on the 2019 elections, while hosting his kinsmen in Otuoke, last Tuesday.
“Those reports are false, and bear no truth whatsoever. The former President, was not in Otuoke on Tuesday, neither did he make the comments attributed to him.
“In fact, he has only just returned to his community to spend Christmas, having been away for two weeks, so he could not have been hosting anyone there, last Tuesday.
“Of what good is it to our national development efforts, if some people spend so much energy spreading falsehood about fellow citizens, and our nation?”
The statement, also said the former President, wished “his fellow compatriots a merry Christmas and prosperous New Year in advance, advises all to always channel their efforts towards working to attain the nation of our collective dreams.
